  1. Payton is speeding on the interstate, while drinking and listening to loud music. Kim is at a rest stop, she has run away from home and is resting, and hoping that her parents are scared, wishing that she was in a warm car. Payton is driving even faster, thinking about the priest that told him to turn himself in. He thought the priest would be nicer, since he visited the gravesites. Kim is sitting on the in the rest stop, trying to get warm, wondering why there isn’t anybody passing through the rest stop. She looks at the pay phone for a long time, but she won’t call her parents, they haven’t suffered long enough. She gets back on the macadam, to get a ride before it gets completely dark. Payton doesn’t care about what the priest said anymore. He sees a young hitchhiking girl at the road. Kim sees a car pulling in to the side, she didn’t see the driver. She runs to the car, as she opens the door, she can hear loud drumming music.

  2. Driving at an increasing speed, a man known as Payton is travelling onto the Interstate. He regularly sips beer from a can of Budweiser, and the sound of drums resounds in the car. The speed of the car is in-creased even further while his hair trails in the wind. Every now and then, he rubs the tattoo on his bicep which depicts a cobra. After having observed the horizon, Payton concludes that it will start raining soon. He recalls the priest who urged him to contact the police, but he rejects the idea of doing so.
After having left home earlier, the 15 year old girl Kim is sitting in a toilet at an Interstate rest stop. She is hungry and wishes that she were home again, but reminds herself that she needs to teach her parents a lesson. By leaving home she will prove to them that she is capable of managing her own life. The place is unusually quiet, only the sound of raindrops hitting the roof breaks the silence. She decides to leave, and while heading back for the Interstate, she passes a payphone and looks at it. After a while, however, she moves on.
Payton relishes that the sound of drums has replaced that of the saxophone which has annoyed him for quite a while. The drums stimulate him. He notices a girl at the edge of road, apparently hitchhiking, and slows the car down. The girl starts running towards the car.

  3. Payton a man with long dirty hair, on his left bicep he has a tattoo of cobra. He is driving on the interstate, he is accelerating as he gets further and further along the interstate, he keeps an eye out for the Highway Patrol. He is still driving faster and the drums playing from his tape deck gets louder. He thinks on what the priest tells him to do, turn himself in, the priest is not as nice as he thought he would be. Even though he visits the funeral home afterwards.
Next up we meet Kim a young girl who is running away from her parents, she needs to teach them a lesson. Although she is 15 years old, she can run her own life, without them interfering all the time. She looks at the phone booth for some time, she then decides to go further along and not call her parents, they must worry about her. She is soaking wet from the rain pouring down, as she continues along the interstate. Payton and Kim meet at the end of the story, where she enters his car to the sound of very loud drums.

  4. Payton is driving a high speed while he is drinking a can of beer and is listening to loud drums.
At the same time Kim is sitting in an Interstate rest stop eating a granola bar and the rest of an apple. She thinks about her parents that it is okay to teach them a lesson because in her opinion is it okay to live her own life without no interference from them. It is cold and its starts raining and moreover she is hungry and wishes a little bit that she is back home.
Payton hopes that the high speed can stop his thoughts about the priest who he is disappointed at because of the priest reaction when he tells him that he has send flowers three out of five times to the funerals. He wishes the saxophone will stop and the drums start again because it gives him high energy.
It’s nearly dark and the rain is starting. Kim goes outside from the john, looking at a pay phone but she thinks it is too early to contact her parents. She is also thinking about the good story she can tell to her girlfriends. She decides to have a ride before it is full dark.
Payton rubs his tattoo on his arm, a cobra. It is like it needs to be fed. The drums are starting playing again and he feels invincible. Through the rain he sees a hitchhiker, a young girl...
Kim is soaked from the rain and when the car stops past her she wishes she has been able to check out the driver. She opens the door, and hear very loud drums....

  5. Summary of ‘’Rendezvous’’
The story is split up in two. One of them is about a girl called Kim and the other is about a man called Payton who has a cobra-tattoo. It takes place on the interstate in USA. We are following Kim and Payton at the same time, but in the end of the story they meet each other and the two stories becomes one. Kim is fifteen years old. She wants to have the control over her own life, without her parents interfering. She is walking by the interstate, trying to get a ride. At the same time Payton is driving by while he is listening to very loud music. He has just made a confession to a priest. He is driving very fast as if he is trying to escape from something but he slows down. Kim watches the car pull off the road fifty yards past and she begins to run. She wishes that she could see the driver, but it is very dark and raining. As she opens the door, she hears drums.
